Participants are encouraged to submit abstracts for review and presentation. Work-in-progress abstracts are also encouraged to be submitted. Abstracts should be submitted in English. Submitted abstracts will be peer-reviewed and assigned for Oral or Poster Presentation.

Instructions for Submission

Deadline for Submission of Abstracts: February 29, 2004
Abstracts received after the date can not be considered by the Scientific Committee

Notification of Acceptance: March 22, 2004
The presenting author of abstracts will receive a letter regarding the status of the submitted abstract. It is the responsibility of the presenting author to inform the other authors about the status of the abstract.

Withdrawal / Changes
Revised abstracts must be received by February 29, 2004. Only the abstracts submitted on-line may be revised electronically by using the web option. When electronically submitting a revision, the author must refer to their confirmation number and the password.
All other revisions may be submitted by using the abstract form. To avoid duplication, be sure to indicate at the top of the abstract form that it is a revision. Withdrawals or changes will not be possible after February 29, 2004.

Publication
Abstracts accepted for presentation (either oral or poster) will appear in the Congress Abstract Book and Journal of Critical Care and Shock, which is the official journal of WPACCM. In order for abstract to be published, the presenter must pre-register for the congress.

Method of Abstract Submission
There are two ways to submit abstracts. The first option allows for quick and easy submission electronically via the website. The second option allows for submission via air mail using the enclosed abstract form. Electronic submission is highly recommended.

OPTION 1: Completing the On-line Abstract Form
1. Review the "Guidelines for Abstract Submission" and all instructions before completing the on-line form.
2. Click on the "Abstract Submission" button. On the page that appears, enter all abstract information in the appropriate boxes.
3. Be certain to provide all requested information. Check your information and password carefully before sending. By clicking the "Submit" button, a confirmation number and password will appear. Please save or print the confirmation number that appears with your abstract for any future inquiries about your abstract. You should use your confirmation number and password to edit your abstract before February 29, 2004.
4. You will receive an e-mail with the confirmation number and password for your abstract.
5. Do not submit the same abstract more than once, either electronically or by mail.

OPTION 2: Completing the Abstract Form
The original abstract, plus two of its photocopies, should be sent as one set by airmail to the secretariat, in addition to a file copy using MS Word for IBM PC, either by sending in a 3.5" diskette or as an e-mail attachment to wpaccm2004@intercom.co.kr. Files must not be created with Macintosh computers. Faxed abstracts will not be accepted.

Selection Criteria
Abstracts will be selected according to the following criteria:
  - Originality and interest
  - Abstract organization and clarity
  - Scientific validity
  - Potential significance

Abstract Format
Title
  - Capitalize and bold the entire title.
  - Use Times New Roman font of 12 point and center.
  - Do not identify yourself and your institution in the title.

Authors
  - Start a new line.
  - Use Times New Roman font of 10 point and left-adjust.
  - Type the initials of first name of the author first and then the family name. Do not invert the order.
  - Do not state degrees (M.D.) and titles (Prof., Dr., etc.).
  - Type the presenting author's name first and underline it. The first author listed will be considered as the presenter of the submission. Only the presenting author will be contacted by the Secretariat of the 13th WPACCM on all matters regarding the presentation.

Affiliation
  - Start a new line.
  - Use Times New Roman font of 10 point, italicize and left-adjust.
  - Type the affiliation for each listed author.
  - Give only the name of the department, institution, city and country.
  - If co-author's affiliation is different from the presenting author's, please identify with a number and not symbols.(e.g. *, ‡)

Body of abstract
  - The body of the abstract should start without an indent, after leaving one blank line below the title, authors, etc.
  - Type the body of the abstract single spaced and use Times New Roman font of 10 point.
  - One paragraph each for the Introduction, Method, Result and Conclusion, printed in capital and bold letters. These subdivisions are mandatory. Do not double-space between paragraphs.
  - Tables or Charts should be typed within the box of the abstract form.
  - Use numerals for numbers and only commonly well known abbreviations. If you must use other abbreviations, please explain them the first time they appear.
  - Limit the use of symbols.
  - Do not identify yourself or your institution in the text.


Young Investigator Award

The Young Investigator Award has been established to reward authors that submit abstracts and are recognized for outstanding achievements in contribution to the development of critical care medicine.


Eligibility
  1. born on or after January 1, 1964
  2. has submitted an abstract by February 29, 2004
  3. has pre-registered for the 13th WPACCM

Award
  1. reward of US$ 500
  2. certificate of award

Presenting authors who wish to apply for the Young Investigator Award should submit their abstracts no later than February 29, 2004. The paper must not have been previously published prior to the Congress.
